Customize your degree with concentrations
Some BSc. majors require students to choose concentrations, some BSc. majors have concentrations as an option! More info below...
BSc. Majors that include Concentrations are: BSc. General Science, BSc. Biology, and BSc. Chemistry
Concentrations are composed of 6 to 8 directed courses, ranging from first year to senior coursework.
Concentrations by major and how to declare:
Students in the BSc. Biology program have the choice between 3 unique concentrations: Anatomy & Physiology, Cellular Molecular Biology, and Ecology & Evolution or have the option of creating their own (this is a required component, within your major, for graduation from BSc. Biology). Please see pg. 2 of the BSc. Biology Program Planning Guide for further information. For detailed information on course descriptions, prerequisites, and scheduling please visit the Academic Calendar Course search tool here.
Students in the BSc. Chemistry degree have the option of declaring into the Analytical Biochemistry concentration! View the BSc. Chemistry - Analytical BCEM concentration Program Planning Guide here for more information on courses included in this concentration and how to plan accordingly. For detailed information on course descriptions, prerequisites, and scheduling please visit the Academic Calendar Course search tool here.
Students in the BSc. General Science major MUST choose two concentrations for graduation from Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics. Each consists of 6 courses, more details can be found on pg 2. of the BSc. General Science Program Planning Guide here. For detailed information on course descriptions, prerequisites, and scheduling please visit the Academic Calendar Course search tool here.
You can declare your concentrations at any time, however, it is strongly recommended that you do so as early in your degree as possible. You can also change your concentrations as many times as you'd like, however, we strongly recommend that you consult with one of your advisors before doing so.
For BSc. General Science students: you can declare your concentrations by completing the Concentration Declaration form and submitting it to the Registrar in A101 or email studentrecords@mtroyal.ca (using your @mtroyal.ca email and including your MRU ID#) and detail your choice of concentrations.
For BSc. Biology or BSc. Chemistry students email studentrecords@mtroyal.ca (using your @mtroyal.ca email and including your MRU ID#) and detail your choice of concentration.
