Academy Admission and Audition Process

  • Please note that we have altered our audition and entrance processes due to COVID-19. These guidelines are specific to the 2021-2022 year and will be updated again in 2022 for the requirements for the 2022-2023 year.

  • Entrance to the Academy Program for Young Artists is by audition only - please see audition requirements for more information. NEW INFORMATION: Please note that for the 2021-2022 application year, all auditions will be done via video. You will be asked to submit your audition link in the application form. Please have your video finished before going to apply as you will not be able to save your application and return to it.

  • New applicants must fill out the online application form. Applications for the 2021-22 year are now open! Please click here to apply. Applications are open until June 30, 2021. Late applications are acceptable based on a case by case basis. Please contact us if would you like to apply.

  • Any emerging young artist in Calgary, or the surrounding area, who shows clear talent, passion and dedication are eligible to apply.

  • NEW INFORMATION: Returning students who are currently in the program and are intending to return must also fill out the application form. The same information as above applies and you will be required to submit your video. Please click here to apply.

  • It is expected that Academy students take private instruction in their instrument. It is the responsibility of each student to make private lesson arrangements with their instructor of choice. The private instructor does not need to be affiliated with the Mount Royal University Conservatory. Private lesson costs are not included in the tuition.

  • New applicants will submit a video audition. It is recommended that for virtual auditions applicants try to augment their sound quality by using a USB microphone. Click here to download a document with microphone suggestions.

  • Acceptance is determined by an audition panel consisting of Conservatory faculty.

  • Students will be notified by email of their audition results no later than July 2, 2021

  • In order to guarantee a spot in the program and to be assigned to a chamber group and collaborative pianist, students must enroll and pay tuition fees no later than September 1, 2021. Payment plan options are available; arrangements must be made by September 1, 2021. Payment plan options allow you to pay over the course of one, or both, semesters.

*** Late applications may be considered at the program's discretion, depending on space availability.
