Academy Admission and Audition Process

  • These guidelines are specific to the 2022-2023 year and will be updated again in 2023 for the requirements for the 2023-2024 year.

  • Entrance to the Academy Program for Young Artists is by audition only - please see audition requirements for more information. Auditions will take place face-to-face in May 2022.

  • New applicants must fill out the online application form. Applications for the 2022-23 year are open! Please click here to apply! Applications are open until May 6, 2022. Late applications are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you have missed the deadline and would like to apply.

  • Any emerging young artist in Calgary, or the surrounding area, who shows clear talent, passion, and dedication is eligible to apply.

  • Returning students who are currently in the program and are intending to return must also fill out the application form. Returning students will be assessed for their level placement during the last 6 weeks of classes of the current term.

  • It is required that Academy students take private instruction on their instrument. It is the responsibility of each student to make private lesson arrangements with their instructor of choice. The private instructor does not need to be affiliated with the Mount Royal University Conservatory. Private lesson costs are not included in the tuition.

  • New applicants will be contacted in late April or early May with their audition date and time.

  • Acceptance is determined by an audition panel consisting of Conservatory faculty.

  • Students will be notified by email of their audition results no later than June 30, 2022.

  • In order to guarantee a spot in the program and to be assigned to a chamber group and collaborative pianist, students must enroll and pay tuition fees no later than August 15, 2022. Payment plan options are available; arrangements must be made by August 15, 2022. Payment plan options allow you to pay over the course of one, or both, semesters.

*** Late applications may be considered at the program's discretion, depending on space availability.
