Advanced Performance Program Audition and Application Process

  • Please note that for the 2020-2021 year we have altered our audition and entrance processes due to COVID-19. These guidelines are specific to the 2020-2021 year and will be updated again in 2021 for the requirements for the 2021-2022.

  • Entrance to the Advanced Performance Program is by audition only - please see the audition requirements for more information.

  • New applicants must fill out the online application form. All application periods are now closed.

  • The first round of applications will audition in March 2020. Second round of applications will audition in June 2020.  Due to COVID-19 all the applicants who were supposed to audition in March, will be pushed to June 2020. If there are still ongoing issues related to COVID-19 and we cannot complete in person auditions in June, we will accept video auditions.

  • Applicants will be notified of their audition date and time by email.

  • If the auditions are virtual, applicants will be exempt from using a collaborative pianist and may complete their audition unaccompanied. If in person auditions are possible in June 2020, applicants must play with a collaborative pianist at the audition. If the applicant chooses to play with one of the Conservatory’s collaborative pianists, the applicant is responsible for paying the pianist directly.

  • All auditions will be evaluated by a panel consisting of Academy and APP faculty.

  • Students are notified of audition results no later than July 2, 2020. Please expect your results to come by email.

  • In order to guarantee a spot in the program and to be assigned to a chamber group and collaborative pianist, students must enroll and pay tuition fees no later than July 15, 2020. Payment plans are available; arrangements must be made by the July 15, 2020 deadline.

  • Students have the option of simultaneously pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree through Ambrose University. To be considered for both programs, you will need to submit an application for the APP program, apply for admission to Ambrose University and the B.Mus. program, complete the joint MRU APP/Ambrose University audition and demonstrate proficiency in music theory. Please go to this link for the Ambrose University admission requirements and to apply online.

 Returning students

  • Students who have successfully completed one year of the Advanced Performance Program, including all recital requirements, may continue their studies for the following year without re-auditioning. If you are intending on returning, please fill out the Intent to Return Form. The deadline to fill out the Intent to Return Form is May 1, 2020.
