2021-22 Season Update

MRU Conservatory is very excited to announce that we are planning to resume our Early Childhood program for the 2021/22 Season! Currently we are planning to resume in-person classes in September and are very excited to see everyone return to campus again!

Discovering Music (formerly called Kodály Level Two) classes create a playful atmosphere where children are actively engaged in a  wide variety of musical experiences. The program nurtures the development of the child's own instrument, the singing voice, as well as the basics of music literacy (beat, rhythm, melody, and harmony) through a rich repertoire of traditional folk songs, singing games and the use of rhythm instruments.

The Discovering Music program, through its musical experiences, helps to build confidence and self-esteem in each child. It fosters a love of music, language, and learning which will last throughout a child's life.

There are 16 classes per term and each class is 45 minutes in length. Classes are kept small in order to provide more individualized attention and a flexible learning environment.

Since parental involvement is an essential component of the program, they will join their children for the final 10 minutes of each class and are encouraged to share musical activities at home. Children have weekly take-home activities to reinforce the lessons. This course is designed for children ages 5 and 6 years.

Instructors:  Amanda Massey, Judit Szanto, Sylvia Zavzavadjian, Suzanne Derbecker
