Fall 2020 Program Updates

We continue to work through the impacts to the Conservatory given Mount Royal University will deliver instruction and services primarily using alternative delivery in Fall 2020, with limited exceptions.

While the provincial government released new guidelines for phase 2 of the relaunch strategy that allows for some performing arts activities, we must balance these guidelines with the wider range of restrictions and guidelines for all post-secondary institutions.

Please note that if circumstances change during the fall term such that we can return to in-person instruction, we will be able to do so quickly. Mount Royal and the Conservatory remain committed to returning to in-person instruction as soon as it is safe and viable to do so. We encourage you to check this page frequently for program-specific updates.

Changes to our in-person instruction at the Conservatory for the Fall 2020 semester are as follows:

Private Lessons

Private lessons for music and speech arts will continue online throughout the summer and fall months. Learn more about online lessons.

Group Lessons

Early childhood group classes scheduled for September are postponed until November 2020. We hosted two successful early childhood programs online in the summer so we are now considering this option for fall. Group classes that have transitioned online including Speech Arts & Drama classes will continue online. If any other group classes are able to transition online, we will contact you.

Summer Programs

The GuitarFest International Competition will proceed online from August 2-7. The deadline to register and participate is July 27. Learn more about GuitarFest and sign up today!

Academy & Advanced Performance Program

We are planning for the Academy and Advanced Performance Program to start in October with various aspects of the program being phased in if in-person instruction is able to resume. We will keep you updated.

Ensembles, Choirs & Orchestras

Most ensemble, choral and orchestra programs are postponed until January 2021For ensembles that have already transitioned online, they will continue virtually. If any other ensemble programs are able to transition online this fall, the instructor will contact you directly.

Fall Credit

Fall credits issued for cancelled programs and lessons this winter will be valid through Winter 2021.

Kindly note that the decision to postpone select programs is because we are unable to transition them online. If you are currently taking lessons with the Conservatory online, you can expect that they will continue in that format. Please feel welcome to email conservatory@mtroyal.ca with any questions or concerns. As always, thank you for your continued support of the Conservatory!
