MRU Conservatory is pleased to join The Shakespeare Company in offering this exciting opportunity!
Students will be performing fundamental techniques in basic "fight" disciplines recognized by the Fight Directors of Canada (FDC). The emphasis of this course is on the development of technique and the process of the work rather than the performance, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and the fundamental techniques needed to protect the actor and their instrument when engaged in dramatic physical encounters.
Each class will emphasize development of the student’s personal command and understanding of their body in relation to theatrical physical conflict while encouraging each student’s personal development and artistic exploration.
Styles of stage combat to be covered will include Unarmed/Hand to Hand, Single Sword and Swashbuckling.
Instructor: John Knight is a Calgary-based director, actor, fight director, and theatre educator who has worked alongside countless inspiring theatre artists. He is a certified instructor with the Academy of Fight Directors Canada and a graduate of the University of Lethbridge Drama program.
