Complaints Involving MRU Security Representatives

The Manager will promptly address and investigate all complaints involving MRU Security Representatives. Pursuant to the provisions of the Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA,) all formal complaints will be investigated in a professional and respectful manner.

The Province of Alberta, pursuant to the SSIA, licenses MRU Security Representatives and the Regulator, Alberta Justice and the Solicitor General, reviews all complaints and dispositions of complaints.

Any person may make a complaint in writing about a MRU Security Representative to the Manager, Security Services, within 90 days after the action or circumstance giving rise to the complaint occurs. Any allegations of criminal misconduct, including the excessive use of force, must be reported to the Calgary Police Service for investigation.

The Manager may undertake initial attempts to resolve complaints in an informal or conciliatory manner, which does not include a formal investigation, but rather a process to help ensure service AND CONDUCT that is more favourable in the future.

The Manager, or designate, will investigate and dispose of complaints within 90 days. The Manager, Security Services, will provide a written response to the complainant with the disposition of the investigation.

The University may chose not to pursue anonymous, vexatious or frivolous complaints including those made in "bad faith."
