Welcome back

Welcome back faculty and staff

While we are all excited for the new academic year it is important for Mount Royal to carefully and safely reopen. For the time being, most employees will remain off campus for work while others are returning to teach, do research and support students. Mount Royal’s top priority is the safety of people on campus and we have taken steps to create a safer environment for all.

The health and safety of the MRU community is everyone’s responsibility.

On campus activities

Employees are only able to return to work on campus as part of an approved plan. If you are unsure whether or not you are approved to return to campus please check with your manager or chair.

As an employee on campus, here is what you need to know:

  1. Ensure you have your OneCard.
  2. Complete the one-time, required COVID-19 on-campus orientation before returning to campus.
  3. Every day, before you come to campus, submit an online Health Declaration form. Remember to stay home if you are ill.
  4. When you are on campus for work:
    • Enter buildings on your own by swiping your OneCard.
    • Disinfect your hands with sanitizer when entering campus buildings.
    • Wear a mask or face covering while indoors on campus.
    • Wear a mask or face covering outdoors if you can’t maintain a 2-metre distance from others.
    • Practise proper hand hygiene and wash your hands frequently.
    • Be sure to comply with all occupancy and directional signage.
    • Practise physical distancing and don’t remain on campus longer than necessary.
    • Consider downloading the ABTraceTogether mobile app.
  5. The Table is open providing fresh food and beverages on campus. Purchases can be made by debit or credit card, or through your OneCard with the purchase of a new MRU Dining Plan. Cash transactions are unavailable at this time. View full details on the dining plans which are available to employees.
  6. Employees can purchase a parking permit for Lots 3 and A to park starting Sept. 1. Employees can sign up for a spot now using the MRU Parking Portal. Parking permits for the Fall 2020 semester in Lot 3 and Lot A are temporary. Daily parking remains available on-campus in the East Gate Parkade and Lot 2. Parking is free for the first 30 minutes and then a reduced flat rate of $5 per day will apply. For more information visit the Parking & Transportation website.

How do employees pick up or drop things off on campus?

If you need to return to campus to pick up belongings, please arrange this with your manager so it can be done safely and consistent with physical distancing protocols and while campus is open. You can bring home one external screen (monitor) and cables; a keyboard and mouse; office supplies, such as pens, paper and notebooks; an office chair. Do not take desktop equipment or other office fixtures home — only laptops assigned to you. All other equipment must remain in your workspace. Please fill out this form.

If you need to return items to campus, please arrange with your manager on what date and time you will do this (when campus is open). If your manager remains on campus please return the items directly, but practise physical distancing. Your manager will let Security know when you will drop off items at the Security desk near the West Gate, again only when campus is open.

What guidance should I give to vendors and contractors that are on campus at Mount Royal?

Contractors and vendors should follow Alberta Health Services guidance, along with directions from their employer. If there are significant changes on campus, such as closures, Mount Royal will advise contractors who will be impacted. Visitors must complete this Contractor, Consultant and Visitor Health Declaration form before coming to campus

What are the rules for University-related travel?

P-cards are not to be used for purchases unless approved by your dean, associate vice-president or vice-provost. As always, please adhere to the University’s Purchasing Policy.

Is in-house mail service still operational?

Internal mail is being delivered two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For any departments or buildings that are not accessible, mail is stored in the mailroom. Those who wish to pick up their mail or set up mail forwarding should call the mailroom at 403.440.6910 or email jballance@mtroyal.ca to make arrangements. All outgoing mail will be picked up by Canada Post on Mondays and Wednesdays. If it is imperative, please deliver in person or take to a Canada Post outlet.
