The Calgary Foundation Helps Launch the Institute for Community Prosperity

Mount Royal University's Institute for Nonprofit Studies recently took the next step in its evolution shifting its name to better reflect the programs and initiatives they deliver. Campus and local community leaders gathered on April 9 to celebrate the all new Institute for Community Prosperity. “Our vision of community is one where prosperity is defined as sharing of the wealth, sharing of the bounty, a community where everyone participates,” said David Docherty, president, Mount Royal. “This Institute epitomizes what MRU is here to do, create remarkable citizens.” “Since the Institute was formed, our understanding of the role of non-profits, social innovation, and social entrepreneurship has changed significantly,” said Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, a full-time faculty member prior to his election in 2010. “The new name reflects how the non-profit and for-profit sectors must work together to achieve a community that benefits everyone.”
