Dr. Jonathan Withey, new Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, enjoys teaching chemistry, mentoring students and facilitating undergraduate research.

As an accomplished organic chemist, Withey was involved in new medical applications for organic molecules and is credited with securing MacEwan’s first NSERC grant for his work on biowaste conversion.

He completed undergraduate and graduate studies in chemistry at the University of Oxford.

“Dr. Withey is a tremendous addition to a strong team of deans, who all appreciate the value of an exceptional undergraduate experience,” says David Docherty, PhD, president of Mount Royal University. “It's clear he understands the importance of teaching, conducting research and providing opportunities for students to excel.”

He takes over the faculty leadership role from Tracy O’Connor, PhD, who served in an interim capacity since May 2016.
