Who Should Take This Program
Earning the CIA designation is an important accomplishment and professional advantage for internal auditors, audit managers/directors, risk management staff, and other accounting and finance professionals at all stages of their careers. In addition, this program is of value to those who may be seeking continuing professional development and a broad overview of the internal auditing field. Internal audit has proven to be an effective training ground for potential managers. Participants leave the program enriched with educational experience, information and business tools that can be applied immediately in any organization or business environment.
About the CIA Exam and Exam Eligibility
The internal audit function is an effective assurance and consulting function designed to evaluate and improve effective risk management, control and governance processes. To earn the CIA designation, candidates must meet predefined criteria. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited college-level institution. Full-time undergraduate students in their senior year may sit for the exam. Professionals holding qualified certifications may receive professional recognition credit for Part 4 of the CIA exam. Click here for more information on earning the CIA designation, eligibility requirements or registering for the exam.
Important Note: In 2013 The IIA is revising the examination required to earn the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation from 4 parts to 3 parts. Program enrollees who are in the process of earning the designation but have not yet completed the exam are advised to use The CIA Transition Planning Tool to identify options and design a plan of action toward obtaining their certification. Click to access the tool.
Important Deadline: The IIA has a policy that allows students 180 days to take the exam after they register. Therefore if you register for the current 4-part version of the CIA exam on June 30th, 2013, you will have until the end of 2013 to take the exam in the current format, even though the exam will be changing in July. If you do NOT register for the exam until July 1, 2013, you will be required to take the exam in the new 3-part format. If you currently qualify for an exemption from part 4, that option will no longer be available with the new 3-part format. It may be advantageous for you to take the CIA exam in the current version so that you are not responsible for studying the Part 4 content, which will be merged into the other 3 parts in the new version of the exam. Please visit the IIA website for more information about the changes to the CIA exam.
2013 UPGRADE GUARANTEE
In July 2013, The IIA will begin testing the new 3-part CIA exam (click for details on the changes). A new version of The IIA's CIA Learning System (version 4.0) will be released in early 2013 to provide comprehensive and up-to-date preparation for the 3-part exam. For those who purchase version 3.1 (English) of The IIA's CIA Learning System (4-part exam preparation) but are not able to complete their CIA exam before July 2013, we have created the Learning System's Upgrade Guarantee. More information about this guarantee.
