Growing Culinary Herbs
Examine techniques to create your own herb garden. Discuss proper soil and drainage requirements, location, feeding and maintenance, and how and when to harvest. Discover which perennials survive in Chinook country. Popular herb uses are also discussed. Plant a seedling to take home.

Designing Gardens for the Calgary Region        
Meet a professional landscape designer and get practical advice about designing a residential garden for the Calgary area. Learn about formal and informal designs, creating contrasts, and choices for trees and shrubs, hedges, rock walls, xeriscaping, fountains and special activity areas. . There will be time to answer your gardening questions.

Growing Fruit Trees and Shrubs     NEW!
Enjoying fruit grown in your own back yard is rewarding for any culinary enthusiast. Examine techniques to create your own fruit orchard. Discuss proper soil, location and maintenance, and how and when to harvest. Discover which fruits survive in our Calgary climate.

Small Yard Organic Vegetable Gardens
Obtain great yields in small spaces, naturally. Be introduced to growing vegetables organically in raised beds using French intensive and companion planting methods.

Low Maintenance Landscaping       
Reduce your use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, and the need to replace plants annually by creating landscaping using hardy native plants that conserve water and reduce maintenance. Prepare planting areas, identify plants that protect and enhance each other and mulching materials that help retain natural moisture. 

Landscaping with Native Plants

Discuss design considerations including colour, form, viewpoint, scale, setting and texture. Explore the use of annuals, perennials, succulents, herbs, shrubs and tropical plants in your container garden.

Make Your Own Water Garden Feature
Create and take home a small water garden for your yard, deck or balcony. Explore choices for containers, hardy and tropical water plants, small fountains and fish you can incorporate into your water garden.
