CE Bio - Forensics - SnellCathy Carter-Snell
Cathy is an experienced educator, having designed and taught online and onsite curricula and courses since the mid-1990s. Her teaching is based on a philosophy of adult learning- recognizing that learners bring their own experiences and need to build on these, and that learning must be relevant and useful. She developed and taught the Advanced Critical Care Nursing (ACCN) Emergency program, the Forensic Studies program and now teaches with the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Cathy's clinical background has been almost exclusively working with victims of trauma, including Emergency, Intensive Care, flight nursing and sexual assault/domestic violence units.

She is nationally certified as an Emergency nurse (ENC-C) and internationally certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner of Adults and Adolescents (SANE-A). Cathy has helped to develop international standards of practice and the core curriculum for forensic nurses, co-founded the Forensic Nurses' Society of Canada, and is on a number of community agencies and committees. Her program of research and publication is focused on prevention of violence and effective early intervention after violence has occurred. These include developing standards for injury terminology (BALD STEP), multidisciplinary training programs for sexual assault services, and programs to reduce sexual assault and dating violence among university students.
