Interested in complementary health and wellness? Demand for highly trained spa professionals is growing. Your skills can be applied in a wide variety of settings, including wellness centres, day spas, resort spas, destination spas and more.

These techniques are also valuable additions to existing practices such as massage therapy, Shiatsu therapy or other holistic modalities.

Take courses for interest
Individual courses within the program may be taken for interest and are open to practitioners and the general public. Everyone welcome – no experience required. If you decide to enroll in the certificate program in Fall 2012, they will count toward your certificate.

Thai Foot Massage    NEW!
Explore the history and theory of Thai Foot Massage and learn the techniques to administer a one-hour treatment. Be introduced to the major SEN (energy) lines in the leg and reflexology pressure points on the foot.

Hydrotherapy   NEW!
Discover the history of hydrotherapy, the effects that hot and cold have on the body, and the safe application of specific techniques in a variety of settings. Get experience with various methods of hydrotherapy, such as hot/cold packs and immersion baths, in class and discuss clinical indications for their use. Identify modifications needed to adjust hydrotherapy applications based on circumstances and safety of the client.

Earn a certificate
The first intake for the full-time 815-hour Spa Therapy Extension Certificate will be in the Fall 2012 semester, with application available in December 2011. However, many of the courses will be available on a part-time stand-alone basis during this 2011-12 academic year. If you decide to enrol in the certificate program launching in Fall 2012, any courses you take this year will count toward your certificate. Contact us for more information.

Prior Learning Recognition (PLAR)

  • Prior learning recognition may be granted for a number of Spa Therapy courses to be applied toward the Massage Therapy Extension Certificate.
  • For Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy and Reflexology Therapy graduates wanting to take the Spa Therapy Extension Certificate, prior learning recognition may be granted for a number of your previous courses to be applied toward your new certificate
