ACE (Advance Consulting for Education) TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher training programs explore English language teaching and learning through task-based, participatory and interactive experiences. Content is based on the most recent research in language acquisition and education. Further details on individual courses can be found on the ACE website.
Non-native speakers must provide documentation that they satisfy the English Proficiency Requirement for Mount Royal credit programs or TESL Canada requirements, whichever is higher.
It is strongly recommended that students have an undergraduate degree prior to taking these programs.
Please note that registration for Winter classes is available now. Registration for Spring classes will be available March 12, 2012.
Professional Designation Programs
Introductory ESL Teacher Training
The ACE TESOL Certificate is an introductory ESL teacher training course with 100 hours of classroom instruction and a 20- or 10-hour practicum. Students must have daytime availability between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, in order to complete the practicum. The ACE TESOL Certificate with 20-hour practicum (in combination with an undergraduate degree) is recognized by TESL Canada for Professional Standard One.

Advanced ESL Teacher Training
The ACE TESOL Diploma is an advanced teacher training course designed for practising ESL teachers interested in further exploring the theory and practice of ESL teaching. The course consists of 150 hours of online instruction and a 30-hour practicum. Instruction is divided into three 50-hour terms. Students may begin in Fall, Winter or Spring/Summer term; however, the three terms must be taken consecutively. The practicum may be completed in any of the three terms and at any time within the chosen term. The practicum is arranged by the student in consultation with Mount Royal University.The ACE TESOL Diploma is recognized by TESL Canada for Professional Standard Two.
Prerequisite: TESL Canada Professional Standard One (Permanent) or equivalent.
Note: Terms Three and One will be offered in Spring/Summer 2012 term and Fall 2012 term, respectively.

Advanced Grammar for ESL Teachers
The ACE Certificate in Advanced Grammar for English Teachers is a 30-hour online course designed for ESL teachers who would like to become more comfortable with complex grammar structures.

Language Teaching and Technology

This course is not only for teachers of English, but teachers of any language.

Language Program Management
The ACE Certificate in Language Program Management is a 70-hour online course designed for language professionals who are currently responsible for running a language program or who are looking to move into a management role in the future. While based solidly on theory, the course focuses on the practical applications of current management concepts, techniques and strategies.
