Petroleum Joint Venture Administrator Extension Certificate

Joint venture professionals ensure that a company’s contractual obligations are met and act as a liaison between the land, accounting, engineering, marketing and legal departments of petroleum companies.

Please note: Some courses in this program have required prerequisites. Without successful completion of the required prerequisite on your transcript you will be dropped from the course without a refund.

Created in partnership with the Petroleum Joint Venture Association (PJVA)* these specialized programs are designed to give you the skills needed in this rapidly expanding profession. 

Scholarships and Bursaries
Several scholarships and bursaries are available.

Requirements
Canadian high school diploma or equivalent or mature student status with at least two years of business experience. Students must have internet access.

Program Notes
CAPPA Level 1 - Introduction to the Oil Patch will be recognized as a course equivalency for The Petroleum Industry: An Integrated Approach.

The Petroleum Industry: An Integrated Approach will be offered in class in the Fall and Winter semesters; however classes that are specific to our Joint Venture certificates will only be offered in class in the Winter and Spring semesters. If you wish to complete this certificate in the classroom, you are encouraged to begin your studies in the Fall. (Schedule and registration available in June.)

Joint Venture online classes will be offered in all semesters.

Earning Your PJVA Administrator Extension Certificate
Complete all four courses (150 hours) in this PJVA Extension Certificate program with a grade of 60% or higher in each course, within five years. 

Challenge Exam
Available to those with industry experience. Materials are optional and available at the BookStore. Passing grade 60% or higher. Challenge exam may only be taken once.

What's the Difference between a Joint Venture Administrator and a Joint Venture Analyst?

Joint Venture Administrator

• Basic understanding of Joint Venture concepts including: fee structures, terminology, and PJVA Model Agreements including: Service Agreements, Construction Ownership and Operation Agreements and Unit Agreements.
• Provide assistance in making technical recommendations in response to Joint Venture proposals, demonstrates skills in basic economics, negotiating, business policies and corporate procedures.

Joint Venture Analyst

• Understand and follow established Joint Venture procedures and guidelines and build knowledge in agreement terminology, agreement maintenance and compliance within Joint Venture agreements and how these concepts relate to exhibit revisions, agreement amendments and Mail Ballots.
• Understand the basics of production flow and how it relates to service agreements.
• Ability to demonstrate skills in basic economics, and knowledge in business policies and procedures; drafting and comprehend assignment and novation agreements.

The Petroleum Industry: An Integrated Approach
From exploration to production, this course introduces the petroleum industry, its terminology and applications.
Note: Online course must be completed within course dates below.
Course materials: Available through the BookStore for an additional cost.

Challenge Exam - The Petroleum Industry: An Integrated Approach
Available to those with 3+ years of industry experience that includes specific course content. Pass mark is 60%. This challenge exam may only be taken once. Materials are optional. Exam must be scheduled and written within 4 weeks of registration date.
Course materials: Available through the BookStore for an additional cost. Electronic materials are not provided.

Joint Venture Analyst, Level 1
Study agreements required from well to sell – including relationships with land, joint owned facilities and producers.
Prerequisite: Joint Venture Agreements
Note: Online course must be completed within the course dates below.
Course materials: Available through the BookStore for an additional cost.

Joint Venture Administration
Build your knowledge of work practices and documentation requirements for agreements, including standardization and improved efficiency.
Prerequisite: Joint Venture Agreements
Note: Online course must be completed within the course dates below.

Joint Venture Agreements
Learn the importance and function of different types of model agreement.

Petroleum Joint Venture Analyst Extension Certificate

Develop a thorough understanding of agreement administration so that you can ensure contractual obligations are met. Examine joint venture model agreements in order to draft, review, negotiate and comply with terms.
