Petroleum Joint Venture AssociationAs a front line representative, the joint venture professional ensures that a company's contractual obligations are met and provides a liaison between the land, accounting, engineering, marketing and legal departments of companies involved in the oil and gas industry. Gain the administrative skills needed by learning the various tools and techniques a joint venture administrator requires in order to streamline and standardize new and existing industry practices. Develop the tools, techniques and mechanics of the administration and management of pertinent module agreements and their terms and conditions. Study the impact of complex issues associated with work practices and in maintaining and administering recommended industry practices and procedures.

Upon completion of this certificate you will be able to identify and understand joint venture model agreements and their use in the oil and gas industry. Different processing commitments and associated obligations of each model agreement and the respective appendices, exhibits and attachments require the specific knowledge taught in this certificate. Students will prepare and administer joint venture model agreements including the form, structure and specific requirements of each separate component for each agreement.

Canadian high school diploma or equivalent or mature student status with at least two years of business experience. Students must have internet access.

CAPPA Level 1 - Introduction to the Oil Patch will be recognized as a course equivalency for The Petroleum Industry: An Integrated Approach.

Earning Your PJVA Administrator Extension Certificate
Complete all four courses (150 hours) in this PJVA Extension Certificate program with a grade of 60% or higher in each course, within five years. 

Challenge Exam
Available to those with industry experience. Materials are optional and available at the BookStore. Passing grade 60% or higher. Challenge exam may only be taken once.

Define the role of joint venture within the petroleum industry and gain a foundational understanding of the role of an administrator and an analyst within joint venture. Identify and explain the agreements required within operations, mineral rights, surface rights, facilities and land. Be introduced to basic project economics and production accounting, including metering, measurement allocation and SCADA/EFM. Gain an understanding of the role of acquisitions and divestiture, negotiations and oil and gas law, and royalties.

Discuss the importance of each of the model agreements, understand the role each agreement plays in negotiations, explain the importance and structure of each agreement and learn to develop new agreements based on current industry-accepted models, and amend, review and interpret existing agreements.

Develop a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of administering agreements, ensuring that contractual obligations are met. Build your knowledge of joint venture model agreements in order to draft, review, negotiate and ensure compliance with terms. 

Upon completion of this certificate you will be able to provide a thorough understanding of joint venture model agreements and their relationships as used in the oil and gas industry. Students will analyze negotiated terms and draft components of model agreements, understand the various forms, structures and requirements of each component. Identify and apply different processing commitments and obligations associated with each respective appendix, exhibit or attachment while understanding industry practices and procedures.
