Workshop and webinar offerings
Workshops are organized by topic area, or you can browse the calendar by date. All workshops and webinars are free of charge. The majority of workshops are live with a few that are offered in a ‘work at your own pace’ format. Click on the ones that interest you to find complete details and registration information. The Stepping Up workshop is a relationship violence prevention program open to all students at Mount Royal University. Bringing together students of all backgrounds, ages and genders, Stepping Up aims to break down barriers to healthy relationships. Interactive activities help participants identify the differences between healthy, unhealthy and abusive behaviours, and where to turn if they or someone they know needs help.
The Stepping Up Workshop consists of two key components:
- Peer-facilitated workshop sessions
- Participant community projects following the workshop sessions

The Inquiring Mind workshop increases awareness of mental health, reduces the stigma of mental illnesses, and provides resources to maintain positive mental health and increase resiliency.
The Mental Health Commission of Canada created this program, and all participants will receive a certificate of completion. Participants must attend both days to receive a certificate.

Whether you want to speak up in class, learn to talk to your professor, or send professional emails, this workshop will help you to get past your nerves and hone your voice for effective communication.
When we have enough interest in this webinar, we will set up a date and time for interested students.

A 90-minute online training that teaches participants to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and connect them to help and support. This training can be completed at your own pace.

ASIST is an interactive and practice-based course that teaches participants how to provide suicide first aid interventions. Through completion of the training, participants will be able to:
- understand how personal and societal beliefs and values impact views on suicide
- provide tailored guidance and suicide first aid
- identify an effective safety plan and know how to implement it
- recognize important components of suicide prevention
This workshop is not recommended for people who have had a recent suicide loss.

safeTALK is a 3.5-hour workshop that alerts one to warning signs that indicate the risk of suicide. At a safeTalk workshop, you’ll learn the importance of recognizing signs, communicating with the person at risk, and connecting them to intervention resources for further support.

Harm Reduction & Naloxone Training is a two-hour training where participants learn about harm reduction practices, the current state of the opioid crisis in Alberta, and how to respond to an opioid poisoning. This includes how to administer naloxone, the medication used to reverse opioid poisonings. A certificate of completion is available for those that are interested.
There are currently no scheduled Harm Reduction & Naloxone Trainings. Please check back in late August for fall 2023 training dates and times.
This training is being provided through a partnership with Wellness Services and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. We would also like to acknowledge the support of Safeworks Calgary in helping to create the materials for this workshop.

In partnership with the MRU Library, join us in the Maker Studio for this hands-on workshop to learn more about period poverty, menstrual equity and cloth pad making. This workshop will focus on how period poverty impacts those who menstruate and teach you how to make your own cloth pads, a more sustainable option that can be washed and reused. At the end of the workshop, you can either keep the pads you helped make or donate them to SAMRU’s Care Cupboards on campus.

Note: all materials in this workshop will be supplied. Participants can bring their own fabric if they choose, however pads created with personal materials will not be eligible for donation.
