Flags at half-mast
In recognition of the tremendous loss experienced by the University of Alberta, the Canadian post-secondary community and the country as a whole, our flags are at half-mast until sunset on Friday. We extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the crash of Flight PS752 in Iran. Fire drill on Jan. 21 On Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m., Mount Royal University will hold a practice fire drill that is expected to take about 20 minutes. This drill will include an evacuation of all Lincoln Park campus buildings, except Residence. It is mandatory for everyone to participate. Learn more about fire drills at Mount Royal. ORSCE's Internal Research Grant Fund opportunity now in ROMEO The Office of Research, Scholarship and Community Engagement has announced its Internal Research Grant Fund (IRGF) opportunity to be open and accepting applications via ROMEO. The IRGF is the main source of internal funds available to eligible faculty at MRU. Check your eligibility in the Program Guidelines and Instructions. The deadline is Jan. 17. IES Research Grant Fund The Institute for Environmental Sustainability's (IES) Research Grant opportunity is now open in ROMEO. See the IES guidelines for details. The deadline is Jan. 24. Environmental Health and Safety has provided an easier way to report workplace injuries. Use this Google form, instead of Intelex, to report an injury or incident. This is a more efficient, cost-effective tool for gathering data.
Resubscribing to content warning notifications on MRU Now
Due to technical issues with the MRU Now app, those subscribing to the protesters (renamed "content warning") notifications need to log into the app and subscribe again. Just tap "preferences/about," scroll down and choose “subscribe to content warning notifications."

In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, MRU is working to increase Indigenous student enrolment. Last year, 6.0 per cent of students self-identified as Indigenous, moving us closer to our goal of 7.0 per cent by 2025.

Excellence in Advising NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising Northwest Region 8 has selected Faculty of Science and Technology academic advisor Cheryl Melatdoost as the winner of the Region 8 Excellence in Advising — Advisor Primary Role Award. Region 8 covers Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Yukon. Read more about how Melatdoost has made a “major” impact at MRU. Buchanan delivers keynote Sociology professor Tom Buchanan, PhD, acted as the keynote speaker for the sixth International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches (iCMA) in Sri Lanka. His address was titled "Multidisciplinary Approaches in a Specialized World: How Active Pursuit of Difference Produces Positive Social Change." During his visit, Buchanan also developed initiatives for research and student exchanges.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up
As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
