Academic Town Hall tomorrow (April 17)
Join Provost and Vice-President, Academic, Lesley Brown along with the
Board of Governors' faculty members, Associate Professors David Clemis and Kenna Olsen, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the TransAlta Pavilion in the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts tomorrow for a recap of the last semester.

Incoming President and Vice-Chancellor, Tim Rahilly, PhD, installation happening at June Convocation
The presidential installation will take place at all five Convocation ceremonies. Employees are invited to attend any ceremony in general seating. If you are not gowned, please attend either ceremony on Thursday, June 6 or the morning ceremony on Friday, June 7, as there will be more seating available. Live streaming will also be available.

MRSA credit course tuition reimbursement
June 14 is the deadline for MRSA members to apply for up to $500 of tuition reimbursement for a credit course at an accredited post-secondary institution. Download the application form. Find all human resources-related forms on MyMRU under the Employee/Human Resources/HR_Toolkit tab.

Budget Information Sessions
An update on budget development will be provided on Tuesday, April 23 in the Ideas Visualization Lounge (EL1270). There will be a session from 9 to 10 a.m. and another to follow from 10 to 11 a.m.

Convocation volunteers needed
This will be MRU's busiest convocation season ever, and we are short volunteers. Convocation days are Wednesday, June 5, Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8. To help celebrate the achievements of Mount Royal's students, sign up as a volunteer for gowning / marshall or as a ceremony volunteer.

Short East Gate Parkade closure
The East Gate Parkade will be closed this Thursday (April 18) at 10 p.m. and will reopen on Friday morning (April 19) at 6 a.m. If you require parking during this time, please use Lot 8.

Feeding ducks or geese harms them and creates risks
Feeding ducks or geese can cause aggression, unnatural behaviour, poor nutrition and delayed migration. It can also lead to pollution and the spread of disease. Please avoid contact with ducks and geese on campus.

Power-washing at campus entrances
Power-washing is taking place at outdoor entrances across campus. The entrances will remain open but please be aware of work in the area.

MRU's access control system is being upgraded

Beginning later this month, Facilities Management will be updating the technology that controls locked doors throughout campus. Each area will be notified ahead of work happening in their areas. Most of the work will be done in electrical rooms and there will be little to no disruption to employees.

Hiring a research assistant?
Human Resources has developed an information sheet titled "How To Hire a Research Assistant" to assist with the process.

Gravel cleanup starts April 27
The cleanup period is expected to last only a few days, causing little to no inconvenience. There will be no road closures.

Do you know ... why the teepee is not painted?
Many have asked why Mount Royal's teepee is not painted. The reason for this is that once a teepee has been painted, it becomes sacred, meaning it must be occupied at all times. In order to be able to take the teepee down and move it around campus, the choice was made to leave it unpainted.

Associate Professor Michelle DeWolfe, PhD, wins the William Harvey Gross Award
The William Harvey Gross Award is bestowed annually to a geoscientist who has made a significant contribution to the field of economic geology. PhD and Associate Professor Michelle DeWolfe’s research focuses on
modern submarine volcanic successions and ore-forming processes related to volcanism in the Northwest Territories. Read more.

Former athletics employee to be inducted into Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Hall of Fame
Al Bohonus, who was the host chair of the first-ever Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s basketball National Championship at Mount Royal in 1975, will be inducted posthumously into the CCAA Hall of Fame in the Builder Category. Read more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
