For most courses, you will need a laptop or desktop computer, reliable Internet connection, web browser (Google Chrome is recommended), webcam and microphone. Specific requirements for each course are provided on the program webpages.

 


 

Online Asynchronous (ONA)

Use Mount Royal’s learning management system, D2L Brightspace, to access materials, participate in discussion boards and complete assignments according to the course schedule. These instructor-facilitated courses begin and end on set dates and have specific assessment deadlines. Some courses include optional live, Google Meet sessions designed to provide additional access to instructional help. Note: Classes may be recorded and available for review within the D2L course site.

 

Online Asynchronous, Self-Directed (OND)

Use Mount Royal’s learning management system, D2L Brightspace, to access materials anytime prior to the course end date. Work through material online and/or download the course manual for future reference. Online asynchronous, self-directed courses are not-instructor facilitated, have no assessments (non-graded), and no credential is awarded.

 

Online Synchronous (ONS)

Use a combination of Mount Royal’s learning management system, D2L Brightspace, and Google Meet or Google Classroom to participate in live, instructor-facilitated classes that are held at scheduled dates and times. Enjoy real-time learning and interaction with your instructor and classmates. Access courses via a laptop or desktop computer with a functional webcam and microphone. In addition to the online synchronous sessions, students may be required to complete course work outside of scheduled classes. Please note the deadline to register for online synchronous courses is 24 hours prior to the course start date. Note: Classes may be recorded and available for review within the D2L course site.

 

Online Synchronous / Asynchronous Blend (ONB)

Use Mount Royal’s learning management system, D2L Brightspace, to access materials, participate in discussion boards and complete assignments according to the course schedule. These instructor-facilitated courses begin and end on set dates and have specific assessment deadlines. Courses include one or more live, Google Meet sessions designed to encourage peer-to-peer learning and provide additional access to instructional help or feature guest speakers to add to the real-world learning experience. Please note the deadline to register for online synchronous / asynchronous blend courses is 24 hours prior to the course start date. Note: Classes may be recorded and available for review within the D2L course site.

 


 

Classroom / Lecture (CL)

Enjoy the benefits of in-person learning in our classroom/lecture courses at the Mount Royal campus in Calgary, Alberta. Classes are scheduled at set dates and times, often during weekends and evenings. Course materials are typically administered through Mount Royal’s learning management system, D2L Brightspace.

 


 

Blended Online & Classroom / Lecture (BL)

Includes a combination of either online asynchronous or online asynchronous, classroom/lecture, or other in-person components. Details are provided on the program webpages. Note: Classes may be recorded and available for review within the D2L course site.

 


 

Fast Track (FT)

Allows you to complete an entire program in a short period of time. The timing and format varies depending on each program. Fast track programs can be offered online synchronous, online asynchronous, classroom, or blended online/classroom. Details are provided on the program webpages.
