We know some of our community members are facing tough economic times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To help, we’re launching a new program to award up to $10,000 in bursaries to support those affected by the financial fallout caused by the pandemic. Our courses, certificates and diplomas enhance work-ready skills and provide a competitive advantage.
Receive a $500 bursary to apply towards a Continuing Education course
To be eligible for one of 20 available bursaries — worth up to $500 towards a course* through Mount Royal’s Faculty of Continuing Education — you must have received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). Please see the details below for application requirements. The bursaries can be applied to courses in the 2020 Fall and 2021 Winter semesters.

The Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program will award bursaries of up to $500* to the first 20 applicants who fulfil the application requirements.
In the application, you will be asked to:
- declare that you are a CERB recipient. Successful bursary applicants may be asked to supply proof of CERB receipt.
- copy and paste your resume; or provide a link to your LinkedIn profile or other online resume.
- write a short (250 words maximum) description of how this bursary would enhance your learning career opportunities, personally and professionally.
- supply the top three courses that you would apply the bursary to.
Recipients must meet course requirements. Courses are limited in space and subject to availability. Recipients are responsible for any supplementary costs (e.g. textbooks, materials, supplies, etc.).
The application period opens at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 and continues until all bursaries have been awarded, or 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, whichever comes first. All applicants will be notified via email of the status of their application by Wednesday, Sept. 30. Recipients will receive instructions on how to redeem their bursary.

The following applies to the Mount Royal Continuing Education Emergency Bursary program:
- No payment or other registration at MRU is necessary to apply for the bursary.
- The Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program is awarding up to 20 bursaries to people who have received the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit and who submit an application form with requested information. Each recipient can apply up to $500 of the bursary towards a professional development course through Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education. To apply, fill out this application form.
Starting Thursday, Aug. 27, the Administrator (defined in section 3 below) will contact recipients by email to notify them of their award. By entering the Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program, applicants agree to accept, abide by and acknowledge compliance with these rules, including but not limited to all eligibility requirements. The decisions of the Administrator are final and binding on all entrants with respect to all aspects of the bursary award. - The Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program is administered by Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education (the “Administrator”). The bursaries will be awarded in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from Thursday, Aug. 27 to Wednesday, Sept. 30. All decisions of the Administrator are final.
- Each bursary is valid for up to $500 towards one (1) course through the Faculty of Continuing Education at Mount Royal University, with exceptions. Bursaries can not be applied to courses in the following areas: Massage Therapy; Personal Fitness Trainer; Funeral Services; Education Assistant; Academic Upgrading; Open Studies; and The Conservatory. Bursaries must be redeemed in the 2020 Fall or 2021 Winter Semesters. Bursaries not applied in these semesters will become invalid. Receipt of the bursary is subject to these rules. The bursary must be accepted as described in these rules and cannot be transferred to another individual, substituted for another Faculty or exchanged in whole or part for money. If the cost of a course is more than the bursary, the recipient is responsible for paying the difference. If the cost of a course is less than the $500 bursary limit, the recipient will not receive the difference. Course availability is subject to change.
- Method of entry: Each applicant must fill out the bursary application form, including a summary of how the bursary would benefit the applicant professionally and/or personally. Applicants must also include their top three (3) course selections. Applicants may apply once. Recipients are limited to one (1) bursary.
- Eligibility: The bursary application is open to all Albertans/Canadians (excluding Quebec) who are at least 18 years of age as of Thursday, Aug. 27. Employees of Mount Royal University, agents and representatives are not eligible. The Administrator reserves the right to prohibit an individual from participating in the bursary program, if, in its sole discretion, it is determined that the individual is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the bursary program.
In order to be eligible, applicants must fully complete the bursary application form, including verifying they have received the CERB and including a resume/link to LinkedIn profile, and a summary of how the bursary would benefit the applicant professionally and/or personally. If an application is in violation of these bursary application rules, it will be disqualified or deemed ‘void’. The validity of any entry is subject to verification by the Administrator. Any entries that are illegible, incomplete, fraudulent, misrepresented or otherwise non-compliant with these rules, will be disqualified. - Awarding of bursaries: To receive a bursary, a selected applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in sections 5 and 6 and be in compliance with these bursary application rules. The applicant must be available for notice by email (at the email address used to submit the application) – by the Administrator within six (6) days immediately following the closing date and time of the bursary application. Should a selected entrant not respond within 72 hours of the notification or fail to provide proof of eligibility, their entry may be declared null and void and another application selected from the remaining bursary applications.
- Delivery of bursary: Instructions on how to claim the bursary will be included in in the notification email sent to bursary recipients.
- Administrator Disclaimers: a) The Administrator is not responsible or liable for unsuccessful attempts to notify selected entrants or for entries or declaration and release forms which are delayed, lost, stolen, illegible, damaged, misdirected, or incomplete. b) The Administrator is not responsible for lost, late, or damaged entries due to internet, computer, phone, other technical errors, or any situation that may limit an individual’s ability to participate in the bursary program.
- Changes to bursary application rules: The Administrator reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the bursary program registration in the event of any cause that is beyond the control of the Administrator including any virus, computer bug, hack or unauthorized intervention or, any other cause that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the bursary awards.
- Release of liability by the applicants: By applying to the Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program, all applicants agree to release any claims, damages, demands, suits, duties, debts, bonds, contract and liabilities of any nature against the Administrator, its representatives, Mount Royal University and its employees and agents. Winners must complete the requirements of section 8 above to claim their bursary.
- Changes to the Mount Royal Continuing Education CERB Bursary program: The Administrator reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the bursary awards, in whole or in part, in the event of any cause that is beyond the control of the Administrator including any virus, computer bug, hack or unauthorized intervention or, any other cause that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the bursary awards.
The personal information that you provide to Mount Royal University is collected under the authority of the Post-Secondary Learning Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act - Section 33(c). The information will be used for the purpose of the clinical practicum clinics.
Collected personal information is protected from unauthorized access, collection, use, and disclosure in accordance with the FOIP Act and can be reviewed upon request subject to the provisions under the Act.
