This certificate program provides essential training in the flourishing field of project management. It is designed to develop introductory management skills that can be applied to diverse sectors and industries, from IT to human resources, manufacturing to small business.
Taught by instructors who are working project managers, each of the required courses is based on concepts from the PMBOK® Guide, a widely recognized international standard in the industry.

PMBOK Guide® update
The Project Management Institute (PMI) is updating A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). The PMBOK® Guide Seventh Edition is scheduled for release in August 2021. Significant changes in the new edition require an update to Project Management Certificate courses.
Students currently enrolled in — or who wish to enroll in — our existing program have until December 2022 to complete all of their courses. The last final assessment paper course will be offered in January 2023. Our current courses are based on the PMBOK® Guide Sixth Edition and will be offered through the Fall 2022 Semester. The PMI updates the PMBOK® Guide every three to four years. If you would like more information on these changes, please visit the PMI’s Standards & Publications page.

- Format: Both online and live, online. Fast Track is live, online. The final assessment paper is online, independent study.
- Duration: Complete the 7 required courses plus the Final Assessment Paper (136 hours) within three years.
- Textbook (required): Project Management Institute, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) Sixth Edition available at the Cougars Campus Store.
Each of the required courses is based on concepts from the Project Management Institute, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Sixth Edition, Project Management Institute, Inc., 2017, a widely recognized international standard in the project management profession.

Fast Track Schedule (Live, online classes)
Earn your Project Management Extension Certificate more quickly! You need just 4 weeks of part-time classroom study to complete the 7 required courses, followed by the Final Assessment Paper (independent study).
Live, Online Class Requirements: You will use Google Suite (Google Classroom, Google Meet) to participate in this live, online class. You will need to access the class using your Mt. Royal credentials, through a laptop or desktop computer that has a functional webcam and microphone. A stable, reliable Internet connection is required.

Project Management: Overview & Integration
This course is an introductory course to project management. It examines all the fundamental project management processes and knowledge areas as documented in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Sixth Edition. Discover basic terminology of project management, define and understand the fundamental framework of the PMBOK guide by discussing the key processes groups and knowledge areas. Explore Integration Management processes such the development of the Project Charter, Project Management Plan, and what it means to Direct and Manage Project Work, Monitor and Control Project Work, Perform Integrated Change Control, and Close Project or Phase. Analyze the profession of the project manager, and how it's impacted by Project Management Institute (PMI).

Project Management: The Business of Project Management
This course focuses on the Strategic and Business Knowledge aspects of project management in accordance with PMI® 's Talent Triangle, which will also be examined. Analyze the choices a business will make prior to initiating a project to ensure it supports the strategic business outcomes. Define the relationship between projects, programs portfolios and understand the structure and benefits of a Project Management Office (PMO). Examine the role of the project manager as a leader of organizational change.

Project Management: Final Assessment Paper
Apply the project management principles and practices you have acquired through the seven classroom/online courses and apply them to a real-life project. Your advisor, who can counsel you on your choice of topic, offers occasional guidance throughout the development and completion of your Final Assessment Paper. Successful completion of this course, along with the other seven courses, is required for you to receive your Project Management Extension Certificate.
