Sharon Barwick, CSEP
Sharon is a Certified Special Event Professional and has been a manager with Simply Elegant since 2004. She has served as operations manager, florist, decorator, wedding and event planner. Prior to Simply Elegant, Sharon Barwick Designs was a successful Vancouver floral and event decorating company that served the Vancouver lower mainland and Vancouver Island. Sharon is an key note speaker and enthusiastic educator in the event industry and has been an active member of the International Live Events Society (previously known as ISES) for the past 25 years.
Allie Geary Botting
All You Need Events
With a degree in Media and Communications from The University of Western Ontario, Allie began her career in marketing and fundraising, but quickly found her vocation in event management.
Allie ran her own successful event management business in Toronto for over 10 years before moving to Calgary 4 years ago. While she managed everything from conferences to parties, her niche was fundraising events. From large-scale galas to walk-run-cycle events and marathons, Allie made a name for herself as the event planner in Toronto to manage large and complex multifaceted logistic-heavy events.
Allie has always been passionate about teaching, inspiring and mentoring budding event personnel, and was thrilled to begin her career instructing courses for the Certificate of Event Management at Mount Royal’s Continuing Education program. Over the past 2 years Allie has taught Introduction to Event Planning, Event Logistics, and Event Marketing.
She continues to work on large and small-scale events both on a volunteer basis, and through her company All You Need Events.
Lynn began her career in Vancouver after experience and studies in fashion and costume design, floral design, marketing and entrepreneur courses. With 15 years in the industry, 3 international event planning awards and hundreds of weddings to her credit, Lynn Fletcher has the experience and creativity to ensure an event that perfectly reflects the unique vision of each client. Specializing in weddings and other social events, Lynn is honoured to bring her passion for the industry to the Mount Royal Event Management instructor team, mentoring new event managers taking the program.
It all starts with listening. Then, with the boundless enthusiasm of a true romantic, Lynn gets to know each of her clients well, ensuring that their day is a true reflection of who they are. She becomes more than their wedding producer; she becomes a friend and confidant. Lynn has an intuitive instinct for seeing and understanding the needs and desires of brides and grooms. It often is difficult to tell who is more excited about the wedding, her or her clients.
Lynn plays an active role in the event industry as an instructor in the Mount Royal Event Management Certificate program, delivering The Business of Wedding Planning and Event Logistics courses, as well as contributing to the curriculum development for the Event Management program itself. As a member and past board member of the International Special Events Society (ISES), Lynn attends training conferences and trade shows worldwide to ensure that she stays on top of the latest trends and best ideas in the industry. That wealth of knowledge is priceless and her students have an all-access pass!
Cynthia J Lamont, CMP, CMM
Cynthia is a senior meetings professional with over 19 years of industry experience working and attending University in both Denmark and New Zealand. She graduated from Massey University, New Zealand in 1991 with a Graduate degree in Human Resources and a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Economics from Simon Fraser University, Canada. In addition, she holds two significant meetings industry designations - Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and Certification in Meetings Management (CMM).
During Cynthia's career, she helped to open the Morris J Wosk Centre for Dialogue, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC. In addition to owning her own event management company, Cynthia was also the provincial event manager for the Certified General Accountants Association of Alberta. In 2012, Cynthia accepted a contract position with Meetings + Events Calgary (MCC) where she developed and launched two departments for the City - Events Services as well as the Calgary Ambassador Program. Both departments supported MCC in their successful bids to attract international conferences to the city of Calgary.
Cynthia has been an event industry leader and mentor who is continually recognized for her ability to quickly understand and fulfill clients' needs. She was honoured to be named Meeting Professionals Industry (MPI's) Greater Calgary Chapter's 2010 Rising Star; 2011 President Elect; 2012 President and the Mentor/Coach of the year; 2013 MPI International RISE Award recipient and speaker at the MPI World Education Congress; 2016 Meeting & Incentive Travel Hall of Fame finalist in the category of Industry Mentor. She currently sits on the International Chapter Membership and Advisory Council for MPI.
