Strategic Sustainability & the Energy Industry Certificate of Completion
Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of sustainability and associated business implications. This program provides professionals skills in energy and stakeholder relations, as well as the knowledge required to prioritize and effect strategic sustainability. Learn foundational skills and knowledge to help transition into a career in sustainable development.

Important Notice: Effective November 1, 2019 the Strategic Sustainability & the Energy Industry Certificate of Completion program will be suspended. Current, active students will have until June 30, 2020 to complete the program requirements for graduation.

Strategic Sustainability and the Energy Industry: An Introduction
This course is an introduction to the concept of strategic sustainability. It defines sustainability and identifies why strategic sustainability is critical for societies, businesses, and ecosystems to thrive. You will explore sustainability in theory and application from both a global perspective and in more local contexts, think critically as you examine tensions in sustainability, and consider current issues in energy and sustainability.

Strategic Sustainability and the Energy Industry: Society and Engagement
This course sets the stage for understanding the concepts of environment and economics from a socially-informed perspective. It includes an in-depth exploration of stakeholder engagement and the social elements of sustainability from global, regional and local contexts. You will be presented with a high-level overview of stakeholder topics in Canada, including land rights and court cases, engagement approaches, and an awareness of Indigenous cultures and perspectives.

Strategic Sustainability and the Energy Industry: Environment and Economy
In this course you will explore climate change, pollution, water scarcity, reclamation, conservation and the utility of Environmental Management Systems as a tool to manage issues.
You will then examine the economic pillars, considering economic concepts central to understanding of business in the sustainability context. You will understand how economics is central to sustainability and also how sustainability is central to business.
