Tipi Teachings – Blackfoot and Cree

Man raising a tipi

Special opportunity to participate in Tipi Teachings pilot courses

The office of Indigenization and decolonization (oid) is working in partnership with the Faculty of Continuing Education (CE) to develop non-credit course offerings that help build Indigenous cultural competency among members of the MRU community and the general public.

Tipi Teachings are a series of immersive day-long courses that will take place on the Mount Royal campus.Taught by Blackfoot and Cree Elders, these courses will expose participants to a variety of traditional teachings on topics such as etiquette, family and social systems, traditional medicines, ceremonies, songs and dance, governance and more. In each course, participants will raise a tipi, participate in traditional ceremonies and enjoy traditional foods as part of an authentic Indigenous learning experience. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

This is an incredible opportunity to develop your understanding and appreciation of traditional Blackfoot and Cree protocols. Your participation and feedback on your experience will also help ensure future Tipi Teachings offerings will be a success.

Our pilot programs have ended.
