MS Excel Certificate of Completion


Discover what Excel can do for you!  Explore producing everything from basic financial statements to advanced statistical reports.  Begin with the introductory course to build your confidence or enrol in an upper level class to learn how to use the most sophisticated features of the software.

These courses are offered in PC computer labs. Students are not required to bring their own computer to class.


  • Prepare to rejoin the workforce or advance your position by upgrading your proficiency in Excel
  • Explore the Excel environment and practice basic skills
  • Learn how to use advanced applications like graphs, charts, macros, templates, and analysis tools
  • Complete the 3 required courses (36 hours)
  • You may take individual courses without earning the certificate
  • Can be completed within 1 semester up to a maximum of 2 years
  • Textbooks required for this program (approx $120) and is available at the Cougars Campus Store.

MS Excel, Level 1

Discover the basics of an electronic spreadsheet. Learn correct terminology, mouse and keyboard movements and be introduced to the MS Excel environment. Learn how to enter data and apply formatting through a variety of methods. Perform calculations by creating formulas and using simple functions.
Recommended Preparation: XWIN 10003 File Management Basics or equivalent windows file management course

MS Excel, Level 2

Explore a variety of Excel’s built-in specialized functions beyond Level 1.  Learn multiple ways of using a spreadsheet as a database (list) to organize, sort, and filter data. Learn how to use database functions and learn how to create pivot tables, pivot charts, slicers, and timelines.
Recommended Preparation: XCSS 10001 MS Excel, Level 1 or equivalent

MS Excel, Level 3

Learn how to create chart templates, share workbooks link workbooks, customize charts, save them as templates, and use Sparklines. Analysis tools including goal seek, solver, scenarios, macros, lookup functions, and auditing a worksheet are also covered.
