CAPPA Level 1: Introduction to the Oil Patch - Dec. 15, 2019 will be the final day to complete this course.
Gain an overview of oil patch activities, terminology, departmental roles and relationships.
Note: You must have Internet access. Pass mark is 70%.

     
 
 

CAPPA Level 1: Challenge Exam - Dec. 19, 2019 will be the final day to challenge this course.
If you have oil and gas industry experience that includes specific course content, you can challenge Level 1 by taking a 3-hour exam with approximately 200 multiple-choice and true/false questions. Exam is completed on campus, in a monitored setting. 
Successful completion of the exam allows for course credit; however, if you do not receive a passing grade you must take the course for credit. There are no rewrite options.
Note: Exam is designed for students with more than 5 years' industry experience. This exam must be written within 4 weeks of registration. Pass mark is 70%.

     
     

CAPPA Level 2: Oil Production Accounting - Dec. 15, 2019 will be the final day to complete this course.
Oilfield practices and procedures, AER requirements, land agreements, oil royalties, and BC and Saskatchewan reporting.
Prerequisite: CAPPA Level 1
Note: You must have Internet access. Pass mark is 70%.

     
     

 

CAPPA Level 3: Gas Production Accounting - Dec. 15, 2019 will be the final day to complete this course.
Field handling and gas processing, joint venture accounting, AER gas well and facility reporting, oil, gas, NGL and sulphur marketing, gas purchase contract and plant allocation.
Prerequisite: CAPPA Level 2
Note: You must have Internet access. Pass mark is 70%.

     
 
 

CAPPA Level 4: Advanced Production Accounting - Dec. 15, 2019 will be the final day to complete this course.
Utilization, volumetric and royalty triggers, allowable costs, and Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan royalties and revenue accounting.
Prerequisite: CAPPA Level 3; and as of Sept. 1, 2015 XACC 10100 or an equivalent Financial Accounting concepts course (see below).
Note: You must have Internet access. Pass mark is 70%.

     
 
 

CAPPA Level 5: Case Study - Dec. 15, 2019 will be the final day to complete this course.
Apply previous learning by working through a complete monthly production cycle.
Prerequisites: CAPPA Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4; and as of Sept 1, 2015 XACC 10100 or an equivalent Financial Accounting concepts course (see below).
Note: You must have Internet access. Pass mark is 70%.

     
 
 

Financial Accounting Concepts - Program Requirement

Exception: If you enrolled in the CAPPA program prior to June 30, 2015 you are not required to take an accounting prerequisite. For more details, please see CAPPA's Pre-requisites & Graduation Requirements.

Financial Accounting Fundamentals
Be introduced to financial accounting concepts, principles and techniques. Topics include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), preparing and analyzing financial statements, the valuation of current assets and liabilities, measuring and reporting business transactions, and using financial analysis to support decision making. (Note: This course is academically rigorous and includes textbook readings, quizzes, online assignments and a final exam.)

Textbooks (required):
Financial Accounting - Tools for Business Decision Making, Seventh Canadian Edition, (2014) with WileyPlus ISBN 978-1-119-41310-3 (textbook and WileyPlus package available at the Cougars Campus Store).
