Kelly Owchar (1986-2017) left this world too soon after a short yet courageous battle with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Despite her untimely passing, Kelly's life was full, happy, and joyous. She enjoyed the outdoors, animals, and crafting. She married her high school sweetheart Dwayne and they became parents to three beautiful children: Eric (2 years) and twins Leah and Lauren (9 weeks). Becoming a mother was Kelly's greatest joy in life, and although her children were so young at the time of her death her legacy of love remains in a multitude of ways.
Kelly, a Manitoba native, moved to Calgary with her family at the age of eleven. She easily adapted to the move and made friends quickly. As a child she demonstrated empathy and compassion that surpassed others her own age. She was funny, energetic, and curious. She was a fiercely loyal friend and loved her family deeply. Her outgoing personality won people over again and again. As a young woman her passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in healthcare. In 2011 she earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree from MRU and became part of the labour and delivery team at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Kelly was a wonderful nurse. She believed in our health care system and took pride in mentoring new nurses.
Kelly was adored by countless family members and friends. Her kind, beautiful heart will forever be missed by all the lives she touched. In the spirit of Kelly's generosity and caring nature, this bursary will be established in her memory to provide support to fellow nursing students pursuing their professional dreams. Through this gift of giving, Kelly's values and passion will continue to live on in the nursing community.
