Ryan was a Mount Royal University alumni. Honoured as Valedictorian, with a Degree in Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership, he was further recognized in 2009 with the Horizon Legacy Award.
Never one for half measures, Ryan visualized and then shaped his own destiny. He turned a passion for cycling into his purpose in life. Ryan's first book entitled "A Purpose Ridden" has gone through a second printing. It chronicles the many adventures and hardships endured by this gifted, young man.
With the heart and grit of a champion, Ryan took on the world's toughest challenges: a 25,000 km bike tour from Alaska to Argentina, the gruelling Race Across America, the remote mountain terrain of the Tour Divide (twice) and Ironman to name a few. He was also the Founder of Bikepack Canada.
Ryan's last mountain bike race, just days prior to a diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer, was at the 24 Hours of Adrenaline in his hometown of Canmore, Alberta in July of 2017. True to form, he finished first in the solo category in a come from behind victory.
Ryan Matthew Correy passed away at the age of 35 in April of 2018. He will remain forever in the hearts of his loving wife, Sarah, our families, the bicycling community and many friends throughout the world. To the recipient of this Legacy Scholarship, we ask that you embrace positive change and live your life with intention. We know that Ryan would smile and be very proud of you.
