Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1977, Steve embarked on a aviation career that spanned the globe. Navigating life's intricate airspace with grace, he exemplified the qualities of leadership and resilience that extended far beyond the cockpit.
Despite facing adversity, including a plane crash early in his career and enduring various health challenges, Steve's passion for aviation only grew stronger, driving him to advocate for innovative industry changes. As he famously remarked, 'A mind expanded by a new idea never regains its original shape.'
Yet, Steve was more than just a skilled aviator; he was also a compassionate and cherished friend to many. His professionalism, humour, and unwavering resilience left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to know him. Steve's generosity in sharing his knowledge and experience spoke volumes about his character. His dedication to excellence and commitment to mentorship became guiding beacons for aspiring aviators. In tribute to Steve's profound impact and enduring passion for aviation, his wife Yvonne, daughter Kristen, and son Justin have established the Stephen McLaren Memorial Aviation Student Award Fund at Mount Royal University. This fund will carry on Steve's legacy by supporting the education of future aviation pilots, ensuring that his passion for flight lives on in the generations to come.
