Mount Royal University to hold installation ceremony for
ninth president
Fall Convocation to be held in the afternoon
(CALGARY — Nov. 2, 2011) Dr. David Docherty will be installed as the ninth president of Mount Royal University during a ceremony Fri., Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Triple Gymnasium.
Docherty assumed the role of Mount Royal University’s ninth president on Aug. 1, 2011. An accomplished academic, author and administrator, Docherty comes to Mount Royal from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON, where he served as Senior Advisor on Multi-Campus Initiatives in the Office of the Vice-President: Academic and Provost. Before that, he was Dean of Laurier’s Faculty of Arts.
Docherty’s appointment as President is another exciting milestone during Mount Royal’s centennial. With his demonstrated commitment to excellence in and out of the classroom, Docherty will lead the University into its second century and further Mount Royal’s aspiration to be Canada’s premier undergraduate university on important measures of student success and satisfaction.
During the Installation ceremony, a new coat of arms for Mount Royal University will be introduced by the Honourable Tim Uppal, Minister of State (Democratic Reform).
At 2 p.m. a Convocation ceremony will be held in the Triple Gymnasium to celebrate the graduation of nearly 180 students.
