Mount Royal University announces first full professors

(CALGARY - May 7, 2012) A ceremony was held this evening in the Leacock
Theatre at Mount Royal University to congratulate the first faculty members
to achieve the University's highest academic rank.

“This is a pivotal milestone in Mount Royal history because it also helps
gauge our progress in creating a different kind of undergraduate
university — one that is focused on teaching and learning informed by
scholarship,” says Mount Royal President David Docherty, PhD.

Sixteen faculty members are being promoted to full professor in 2012. To be
promoted to full professor, candidates must demonstrate excellence in
teaching, in scholarship and in service to the university. They must also
show that their performance represents a clear and prolonged trend within
their academic careers, and that their expertise is recognized not only
within Mount Royal, but also across Canada or internationally.

“Promotion to the rank of full professor at Mount Royal is a formal
recognition of sustained excellence as a faculty member in an
instructionally-focused undergraduate university. It is the highest academic
rank in Mount Royal’s tenure and promotion system -- a system developed at
Mount Royal, for Mount Royal,” says Mount Royal Provost, Vice-President of
Academic, Robin Fisher.
