2021-22 Season Update

MRU Conservatory is very excited to announce that we are planning to resume our Choral program for the 2021/22 Season! Currently we are planning to resume rehearsal in person beginning in October and following  AHS and MRU guidelines as they evolve. We remain committed to the safety of all our students and instructors even as we are anxious to resume face-to-face rehearsals and see everyone return to campus again!

Mount Royal Kantorei has evolved over the past few years into a dynamic and adventurous ensemble with a reputation for excellence. This mixed voice auditioned choir is the adult flagship chorus of MRU Conservatory and has been delighting Calgary audiences for 23 years.

The choir strives to embrace a diverse and wide-ranging program of performance and collaboration under the vibrant leadership of Artistic Director John Morgan. Concerts of contemporary music and Canadian repertoire, as well as choral classics, are pulling in larger audiences than ever.

Through its connection with Mount Royal University, the choir aims to strengthen the musical and vocal skills of individual members and is unique in offering individual vocal coaching to all choristers. Regular sectionals and clinician-led workshops enrich and develop the choir as a whole.

Our collaborations have provided exciting opportunities to sing recently with the Kenyan Boys Choir, headliner Jocelyn Alice (“Jackpot”) as well as various local choirs and orchestras.

Director: John Morgan

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Mount Royal Kantorei for the 2021/ 2022 season.  This year's auditions will have two rounds.  The first round will be a video submission and is due September 5th, 2021.  The second round will be an in-person or zoom chat to get to know you better and answer any questions you may have.

Please submit a video of yourself singing.  It can be anything.  30 seconds of your favorite song, or maybe the whole song (any genre).  Maybe you remember an alto line from a piece you sang years ago and want to submit that.  If you haven't sung a piece in a while, record yourself singing vocal exercises and warm up that shows your vocal range and tone.  Introduce yourself and talk about your singing experience too!

Please fill out the following form to complete your audition.  At the bottom of the form you will be able to post a link to your video or you can upload the video directly to us.  If you are having any difficulties with the form please email info@kantorei.ca for help.
