In the interest of campus safety, Security Services works with the Calgary Police Services to ensure that we are informed of information and warnings regarding the release of high risk offenders in the Calgary area.

Upon receipt of this information a Security Alert will normally be released to the campus community.

SECURITY SERVICES ALERT - March 17, 2011

Calgary Police Service Public Information Notice:

Release of High Risk Offender

Derek Ross Calf-Child, 46, is in the Calgary area after having served a 56-month federal prison sentence for sexual assault causing bodily harm from a 2007 event when he followed a female victim from a downtown LRT to the University of Calgary campus.

He will now be monitored by the Calgary Police Service High Risk Offender Program on a Section 810.2 Criminal Code Peace Bond for two years.

Calf-Child, who was released into the Calgary area Monday, March 7, 2011, has a lengthy history of criminal convictions dating back to 1983, including sexual assault, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.

The public is warned that Calf-Child has a history of sexually assaulting female adults and children.

He is described as Aboriginal, 5’6” tall, and 170 lbs., with brown eyes, a dark complexion and black-and-grey hair.

The Calgary Police Service issued this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of Calf-Child.

In an emergency (life threatening situation) call 9-9-1-1 from any campus phone (from cell phones, omit the first 9). For all other emergencies or to report a crime in progress or any suspicious persons please call the Security Services Emergency line at 5900.
Safewalk is available 24/7 365 days a year by telephoning 6897 to request a Safewalk; picking up any Red Phone (direct line to Security) or using a payphone by activating the Security or Safewalk buttons located at the bottom portion of the phone. There are also twenty-five code blue emergency phones located in the new Parkade. Press the emergency call button and speak directly with a security officer.
After Regular Working Hours:

Faculty and staff working alone in their office areas after hours are requested to telephone Security Services at 6897 and inform them that they are working alone. Security Services will increase patrol activity in the area. Employees are further advised to request Campus Safewalk when heading to parking areas or public transportation.
