Dr. Jeans teaches about environmental science, the conditions of planet Earth that are understood through the fields of geology and physical geography, and what people learn from exploring the matter of space and associated phenomena of the universe through the field of astronomy. He practices at several universities, instructing undergraduates and mentoring professional colleagues and novices in facilitating better methods with energy and creativity.
Students are encouraged to enjoy academia—invited to add to their knowledge the concepts underpinning nature by taking part in case studies, critical thinking, demonstrations, practical activities, scientific modelling, and field exercises among other approaches to learning.
Dr. Jeans’ classes are also enriched by his experience on research projects that include atmospheric conditions impacting humans and our technology along with surface conditions favorable to or inhibiting life. He shares his professional insights from work with private sector and non-governmental organizations, and from writing and editing media, public outreach and speaking, and developing and evaluating curricula and courses related to the natural sciences.
