Violin Instructor

Daniel’s teaching career has spanned over thirty years, and many of his students have gone on to study at institutions worldwide, such as Stanford University,  University of Toronto, Cambridge University, Oxford University, and the Royal College of Music. In addition, many of his students are now professional musicians in various Orchestras and String quartets worldwide.

 Daniel was a scholar at the Purcell School of Music (UK), the Royal Northern College of Music (UK), and the Royal Conservatory of Music (Canada) and studied with such eminent professors as Lorand Fenyves, Yfrah Neaman, Yossi Zivoni and Nicolas Roth, along with regular coaching with musicians such as Leon Fleischer, Jamie Laredo, Amadeus String Quartet, Igor Ozim and Franco Gulli.

Formerly the Head of Strings at Stowe School in the UK and a tutor at Oxford University (Somerville and New College), Daniel has worked with many Youth Orchestras internationally, as well as coaching and examining regularly at the Royal College of Music, including adjudicating the prestigious Royal College of Music Violin Competition.

He has also held co-principal positions in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and was co-leader of Phantom of the Opera, West End, London, for seven years.

In addition, Daniel has worked with many ensembles performing in principal positions in orchestras such as the BBC Scottish Symphony, English National Opera, Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Daniel has also performed regularly with ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia and the London Sinfonietta.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Daniel has performed at venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Festivals include Brighton, Lichfield, Aix-en-Provence and Cheltenham. Solo performances have taken him to Spain, Canada, the United States, France, and India. He has also made broadcasts for BBC Radio, Canadian radio, Russian radio and TV. He regularly directs various ensembles from the violin, performing a wide range of concertos. In 2019, his performance of “Ite Fortes” by Emily Howard, for Solo Violin and the BBC singers, was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Daniel regularly performs and records with the renowned international composer and Kora player Tunde Jegede. Recent tours have included Switzerland, France, the UK, and Canada.

Daniel has recorded on hundreds of  Hollywood film soundtracks, including Lord of the Rings, Black Panther, How to Train Your Dragon, Wicked, and Guardians of the Galaxy.  Composers Daniel has collaborated with include Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Max Richter, and Alan Silvestri, as well as artists such as Stevie Wonder, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Josh Groban.

Daniel was co-founder and artistic director of the  Southdowns International Summer Music Festival in Sussex, UK, artistic and executive director of Arts Revelstoke, and currently Executive Director of ChamberFest West, Calgary.
