
Danielle Greene
Violin/Viola Faculty
Named one of CBC Music’s “30 under 30” hot Canadian classical musicians, violinist and violist Danielle Greene is currently a member of the first violin section of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. For the past three seasons, she was a tenured member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
Native to St. John’s, Newfoundland, Danielle has been extremely active in the Canadian music scene. She won second prize as well as audience prize at the Orford Music Award Competition and was a finalist in the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Competition. Ms. Greene was two-time winner of the Glenn Gould School’s Chamber Music Competition, two-time winner of the National Youth Orchestra’s Award of Excellence and was winner of the University of Toronto’s Concerto Competition. As a violist, Danielle was a finalist in the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, as a founding member of the Myriade Quartet.
Danielle has performed with numerous ensembles across the country, such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Agora Ensemble, Symphony Nova Scotia, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and the Alberta Baroque Ensemble. Ms. Greene has served as Concertmaster for numerous orchestras, including the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra and New Music Ensemble, and the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, to name a few, Additionally, she has been invited to perform as Guest Concertmaster with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Island Symphony. Furthermore, Ms. Greene has performed in masterclasses for some of the world’s most renowned artists: Noah Bendix-Balgey, Benjamin Bowman, and the Julliard String Quartet.
Danielle has been invited to participate in several international summer festivals: Verbier festival, Kneisel Hall, Colorado College, St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar, Pinchas Zukerman Young Artists Program, NACO Mentorship program, and the Manchester Music Festival. Additionally, Danielle was a member of the resident string quartet at the European American Musical Alliance in Paris.
Danielle holds an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory, where she studied with Barry Shiffman and Erika Raum. She
holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto, where she studied violin with Jonathan Crow and viola with Teng Li. Danielle also studied viola with André Roy in the Artist Diploma Program at McGill.
