
Hana Hubley
Tuba/Brass Faculty
A born and raised Calgarian, Hana Hubley, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Lethbridge in 2023 and was awarded the ULethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts Gold Medal, which is granted to the most distinguished graduate for the academic year. Currently, she serves as a student recruitment officer for her alma mater, while performing in ensembles and teaching in the Calgary area.
Hana has participated in many intensives and programs throughout her career. She was a tubist for the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra, and twice a tubist in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Institute. She was a mentee for the International Women's Brass Conference Mentorship Program in and has volunteered for them as well. Notably, Hana participated in the 2022 Domaine Forget de Charlevoix Academy in Quebec Canada, learning from and collaborating with musicians from across North America and Europe. Her educators include: Dr. Nick Sullivan (UofL), Peder MacLellan (UBC/VSO), Velvet Brown (Penn State), Pierre Beaudry (OSM/McGill), and Austin Howle (OSM/McGill).
Since moving back to Calgary, Hana has been heavily involved in teaching band clinics and private lessons, as well as performing with local ensembles. She played regularly with the Westwinds Wind Orchestra and was a featured soloist in Spring 2025 performing the Gregson Tuba Concerto. She regularly performs with the Alberta Wind Symphony, and has been asked to play with the Calgary Wind Symphony as well. Notably, she was a pit musician for the 2024 Badlands Passion Play held in Drumheller, AB.
As a performer, Hana enjoys playing music which spans across genres and styles. She loves to highlight the fundamental tuba repertoire, while also exploring new works, specifically those that require electronic elements. She values the importance of playing music from composers from all walks of life, but greatly appreciates music by Canadian composers.
