  1. I graduated from the Bachelor of Nursing: Athabasca University at Mount Royal College program. Do I get a new degree from Mount Royal now?
  2. I left the BN: AU at MRC program before I graduated. Can I come back now and complete the Mount Royal University BN?
  3. I have a Nursing diploma from Mount Royal. Can I get credit for this and enroll in the  BN program to get my degree?

Mount Royal's Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program

  1. What makes this program different? Why is it special?

    The field of nursing is changing rapidly and nursing education must do so as well. This unique-to-Mount-Royal program prepares graduates for the full scope of nursing practice - for today and for tomorrow.

    The Mount Royal BN:

    • focuses on primary and population health, and on health promotion
    • is taught by faculty with extensive clinical experience
    • offers in every year of the program extensive clinical practice opportunities in a wide range of nursing practice settings
    • features in-depth, intensive learning in concentrated blocks of study
    • has an integrated general education requirement to give you a well-rounded education
    • offers a range of northern and remote practice opportunities
    • starts you in nursing specialty preparation

    BN students also take advantage of Mount Royal's exceptional student-centered and teaching-focused environment.

  2. Who can take the program? And when can I apply?

    The program is open to all students who meet the entrance criteria. For information about admission requirements and the application process, visit Admissions.
    The MRBN currently only has a Fall intake. We typically accept applications between December 1 and March 1.

  3. Will the Mount Royal BN prepare me to take my RN exam?

    Yes. Successful completion of the program qualifies you to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) licensing exam.  The CRNE is run solely through CARNA please contact them directly for further details at http://www.nurses.ab.ca/Carna/index.aspx

  4. What will the Mount Royal BN program cost?

  5. Are scholarships and financial aid available?

  6. I'm enroled in a Bachelor of Nursing program at another post-secondary institution, can I transfer my courses into the MRBN program?

    If you would like to transfer into the  Mount Royal BN program, you must have a transfer assessment completed by Mount Royal University before you can be admitted. Because Mount Royal's program is specialized, there may be a limit to the number of courses you may transfer to the new program. You will also need to complete a number of courses at Mount Royal in order to meet residence requirements.  Transfer credit will automatically be assessed once you have been officially accepted into the program.

  7. Can the Mount Royal BN Program be taken as a part-time program?

    While portions of the first two years of the curricula can be taken part-time, the program is designed to be full-time.

Information for Nursing alumni

  1. I graduated from the Bachelor of Nursing: Athabasca University at Mount Royal College program. Do I get a new degree from Mount Royal now?

    No. Your degree was conferred by Athabasca University and your parchment will not change.

  2. I left the BN: AU at MRC program before I graduated. Can I come back now and complete the Mount Royal BN?

    Because each student's situation is unique, you must speak with an academic advisor to map out the best route for you to complete your degree.

  3. I have a Nursing diploma from Mount Royal. Can I get credit for this and enroll in the  BN program to get my degree?

    The courses you completed under the diploma program will be assessed for transfer under regular transfer arrangements. Due to the changing nature of the nursing profession, the currency of your courses is important, and your courses must have been completed within seven years of admission to the Mount Royal Bachelor of Nursing program.

    Athabasca University offers a post-RN BN program that meets the needs of nurses who graduate with a diploma and are now interested in obtaining a BN.
