A brief history of the Trico Changemakers Studio
Launched in 2018 with a joint vision of the Institute for Community Prosperity and the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and generous funding from Trico Charitable Foundation, the Trico Changemakers Studio was designed as a co-working space for community changemakers on campus. Between 2018 and 2024, the Studio functioned as an independent entity on campus offering office space, programming and client-based services in social innovation and systems change, primarily for the nonprofit and social sectors.
In 2024, there was an opportunity to amalgamate the Studio with the Institute for Community Prosperity. This amalgamation allowed the Institute to expand its program offerings, extend into revenue-generating services, deepen impact in community, and use resources more efficiently and effectively. In October 2024, the Studio’s staff and programming rolled up under the Institute’s banner and the Institute now hosts the Studio as an inclusive space for a diverse community of changemakers from across campus and the broader Calgary community.
