Don’t get deterred by the name — athletic therapy isn’t only for elite athletes. If you’ve got joint pain, muscle strains, or shin splints from walking on Calgary’s cement roads, Athletic Therapy is a good place to start. Its specialty is anything that has to do with muscles, bones, and joint injuries.
Athletic Therapists can be considered the triage centre for an injury. They are focused on assessing muscle, bone or joint injuries and conditions and working towards immediate care, exercise and recovery. Treatment includes various combinations of exercise therapy, therapeutic modalities, soft tissue mobilization, massage, and supportive strapping techniques.
Athletic Therapists treat a wide range of individuals from professional hockey players, recreational athletes, seniors recovering from hip-replacement surgery, or those recovering from some post-Stampede bronco rides. Try it out and get back to what you love sooner.
Common injuries or conditions that can benefit from athletic therapy treatment:
- Sprains
- Strains
- Overuse injuries
- Chronic pain
- Concussions
- Pre- and post-surgery
- Post-fractures
- Motor vehicle accidents (MVA) rehabilitation
