MRU policy complies with new sport law

Mount Royal University has complied with the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act that regulates participation in women’s sports teams across the province.

This legislation requires all sports bodies, including post-secondary institutions, offering amateur sport competition to establish, implement and maintain athlete eligibility policies and processes so that female leagues, classes and divisions are limited to biologically female athletes. It does not apply to intramural sports or Students' Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) clubs.

We know that this is a complex issue that is troubling for many in our campus community. As always we will continue to work with all of our community, including student-athletes, with care and compassion.

MRU’s policies and procedures are posted. More information on the province’s legislation and how it is being applied is available online along with a list of frequently asked questions from the province.
