Mount Royal University introduces fresh new look to website

Redesign offers responsiveness and improved user experience

As part of continuing efforts to offer students, faculty and employees the best resources available to maintain Mount Royal University's (MRU) mandate of exceptional teaching and learning opportunities, a recently completed university website refresh project has resulted in a new, modernized and revamped look and feel to

"Our refreshed website significantly enhances the experience of visitors to the site. The visual impact is quite striking; navigation is easy and the layout is clean. The design is as open and inviting as Mount Royal itself," said Carole Simpson, vice-president, University Advancement.

A joint effort between MRU's Information Technology Services (ITS) and Marketing & Communications departments, a highlight of the refresh is the introduction of responsive design to allow users the ability to better surf from all mobile devices and provide for improved visibility to search engines. Approximately 142,000 sessions each month are generated from hand-held technologies, making up about 23 per cent out of about 610,000 sessions, and so simpler horizontal drop downs have also been created to optimize for cellphones and tablets.

"It was great to see the considerable talents of our IT team put to work. We are very proud of this accomplishment and are looking forward to providing even more usability to the MRU community," said Michael Barr, CIO/associate vice-president, Information Technology Services.

A brand new face for Mount Royal University's homepage at

As an initial touchpoint for prospective students and the public, the website is now better representative of Mount Royal's brand, and is faster, more reactive and more approachable to users and students. The homepage features bright and bold imaging, which highlights stories of the exceptional efforts of our faculty and students, enticing new visitors to dive in, find out more, and enjoy the experience of learning about Mount Royal's offerings.

As MRU grows and evolves, so will the website, and future projects include the addition of more content elements, the inclusion of more flexible templates and continuous improvement of usability.
