Mount Royal celebrates its new strategic plan

Vision 2030 sets the University's overall direction for the next seven years.

Mount Royal University is well-positioned to thrive and adapt to changing realities reflected in society. Vision 2030: Opening Minds and Changing Lives — Mount Royal University’s Strategic Plan 2023-2030 is a roadmap of what’s ahead with the support of a history that spans more than 110 years.

There has been plenty of change over the past century, but a commitment to teaching excellence and centring students has remained a constant. The path outlined in the new strategic plan includes five directions and 10 goals that will allow employees to thrive in a fulfilling work environment and offer students a rewarding and rigorous educational experience.

“Vision 2030 outlines the strategic directions and goals that are essential to shape and update all other University plans,” says Dr. Tim Rahilly, MRU’s president and vice-chancellor. “This plan serves as a vital guide to help us navigate challenges and identify opportunities to strengthen our institutional capacity and foster innovation.”

The plan is more than a document. It is the cumulation of an entire university community’s collaboration to first create a framework, which led to discussions with the Board of Governors and senior leaders. Mount Royal students and employees were called to give feedback, which translated into over 50 consultation sessions and two follow-up surveys. The end result is a comprehensive plan that affirms academic excellence, student success and inclusion for all.

The University’s strategic plan informs divisional and cross-institutional planning efforts, including the newly released Academic Plan 2023-2030. Vision 2030 sets MRU’s overall direction, and more plans and planning activities will advance institutional priorities by delivering on the specific actions required to achieve each institutional goal.

“Every person at Mount Royal will work together to achieve each goal in the University strategic plan,” Rahilly says. “A number of areas are actively working on their plans that will connect to Vision 2030. I look forward to what’s ahead for MRU.”
