2025 ScaleUP award winners announced: Western Canadian companies recognized for purposeful growth

The 2025 ScaleUP Awards have officially recognized Western Canada’s fastest-growing and most impactful companies, capping off a weeklong celebration of entrepreneurial excellence with a high-energy gala at the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary.

Hosted as the grand finale to ScaleUP Week 2025 (June 2 to 5), the awards program honoured 10 standout companies and founders across eight core categories and two headline distinctions: ScaleUP Company of the Year and ScaleUP Entrepreneur of the Year.

Now in its second year, the ScaleUP Awards spotlight founder-led companies navigating the complex and often messy middle stages of growth; after the startup hustle, but before the finish line. These companies represent sectors as diverse as biotech, engineering, virtual healthcare, AI, and manufacturing.

“Growth isn’t just a number. It’s about leadership, execution, and staying grounded in purpose while pushing forward,” said Dr. Simon Raby, Professor at Mount Royal University and Founder of ScaleUP Week. “This year’s winners are building the kinds of companies we need more of in Canada; resilient, ambitious, and driven by real impact.”

This year’s program received over 100 applications from across Western Canada, with finalists selected across six core pathways:

• International ScaleUP of the Year
• Social Impact ScaleUP of the Year
• Sustainable ScaleUP of the Year
• Black, Indigenous & People of Colour (BIPOC) ScaleUP of the Year
• Women-Led ScaleUP of the Year
• Emerging ScaleUP of the Year

Finalists not in the top three of their category were invited to compete for the People’s Choice ScaleUP of the Year, which received over 1,100 public votes. Judges also introduced a new distinction this year - Rising Star ScaleUP of the Year - to recognize a standout company earning between $1M and $3M in revenue that demonstrated clear traction, ambition, and momentum.

In total, 24 founder-led finalists were selected. Each finalist received complimentary access to a private Finalist Reception on May 8, all-access passes to ScaleUP Week (June 2 to 4), and VIP tickets to the ScaleUP Awards Gala (June 5).

Each category winner was selected by an independent judging panel, with the two headline awards chosen from among the category winners.

“What united this year’s winners was a relentless commitment to growth with integrity,” said Dr. Raby. “These are companies building teams, communities, and business models that will shape the future of Western Canada’s economy.”

About ScaleUP Week

Hosted annually in Calgary, ScaleUP Week is Western Canada’s premier platform focused on companies scaling beyond startup. The 2025 edition included four core days: ScaleUP Ecosystems, ScaleUP Masterclasses, ScaleUP Connections and The ScaleUP Gala & Awards, bringing together 1,500+ founders, executives, ecosystem leaders, and investors. The event is designed and delivered by MRU’s High Growth Ventures Initiative housed in the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

While Calgary was the main hub, ScaleUP Regions also launched this year across Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg, with local business events co-hosted by regional innovation providers and community partners such as Tech Thursdays. These regional activations ensured broader reach and reinforced the movement to support companies scaling up across all corners of Western Canada.
