University is where curiosity turns into action.

At Mount Royal University, research starts with a question — and the courage to follow it somewhere unexpected. It’s about thinking deeply, challenging assumptions and exploring ideas that matter. Here, discovery isn’t separate from teaching. It lives in the classroom, in conversation and in collaboration.

Our faculty are scholars, mentors and trailblazers. They don’t just share knowledge — they create it. And they invite students to be part of that journey.

This is where ideas are tested, refined and set into motion.

Research in action

Big questions don’t belong to one discipline — and neither do we.

Mount Royal’s approach to research is collaborative, connected and driven by real-world impact. We work across faculties, schools, centres and institutes to tackle complex challenges from multiple perspectives. When issues are multi-, inter- and trans-disciplinary, our thinking is too.

And students are never on the sidelines.

Undergraduate students have meaningful opportunities to participate in research as paid Research Assistants, through coursework, honours programs and volunteer roles. They don’t just study knowledge — they help shape it. They learn how to ask better questions, analyze what matters and contribute to work that reaches beyond campus.

This is hands-on discovery. This is learning that moves.

Research in community

Knowledge becomes powerful when it connects.

At Mount Royal, research is often rooted in community. We partner with the people and organizations most impacted by the issues being explored — not as subjects, but as collaborators. Community-engaged research means listening first, co-creating solutions and working together toward meaningful change.

It’s about shared insight. Shared responsibility. Shared progress.

Because the strongest ideas are built together.

Research excellence

Excellence isn’t just about output. It’s about impact.

Our strategic direction for research and scholarship focuses on cultivating a culture of inquiry across campus — one that values undergraduate research, community engagement, changemaking and meaningful knowledge mobilization.

Our researchers are committed to academic integrity and real-world relevance. They pursue bold ideas, ask difficult questions and work toward solutions that matter — locally and globally.

This is where curiosity is unleashed.
Where passion meets purpose.
Where learning transforms into leadership.

This is only the beginning.

Research is about breaking boundaries, testing the limits of knowledge, applying expertise for a greater good, and changing the world around us for the better.
