BIOGRAPHY
Berenice Cancino Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor of Broadcast Media Studies at Mount Royal University. Born in Mexico, she moved to Calgary in 2017 to pursue an academic career. She has worked as a video editor for short films and corporate videos, and specializes in sound editing, working on feature films, shorts, and podcasts.
Her research focuses on production studies, exploring the conditions of film sound production in Mexico, and considering the intersections of technology, industry, and creativity in Mexican sound design. Her upcoming publication on the historical tracing of film sound technologies in Mexico will appear in the Journal of Music, Sound, and the Moving Image by late 2025.
