International Education Funding Opportunities
All Mount Royal University students who go abroad (semester abroad exchange, field school, work experience) are eligible to receive funding.
International Mobility Award
The International Mobility Award is guaranteed funding* for all MRU students participating in credited International Education Experiences through MRU.
The purpose of this award is to increase student participation in international activities and to contribute to Canada's economic growth and prosperity by encouraging MRU student to gain the international skills they need to compete in today's global economy.
Funding is dependent on the source of funds and number of applications. Details on applying for the award will be provided directly to eligible applicants.
*All students are required to submit a completed Grant Agreement in order to receive the International Mobility Award.
Additional Awards
Experiential Learning Fund
The Students' Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) offers the Experiential Learning Fund (E.L.F.) to help individual students fund personal and professional development opportunities outside their academic experience at Mount Royal University.

Scotiabank Student International Experience Fund
Open to students from all disciplines, this fund provides awards to help students afford credited international exchanges, international faculty-led field schools and international internships/work experience. Only for students going on exchange to a country where Scotiabank or an affiliate operates.
Amount of award: Variable dependent on the number of eligible applicants.
FH Joanneum Erasmus+ Grant
Our partner FH Joanneum located in Graz, Austria has partnered with MRU to offer generous funding for our students studying at their institution. Erasmus+ is the EU's program to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The recipient of this grant will receive €850 each month while studying abroad plus funding towards travel expenses. Regular MRU exchange application requirements apply. There will be one recipient for the winter 2024 semester with a possibility of renewing the agreement.

Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences Grant
Our partner Heilbronn University located in Heilbronn, Germany is generously offering two grants to MRU Business students studying at their university for the winter (March - August) 2024 semester. The recipients of these grants will receive € 4,750 for the duration of their semester abroad. Regular MRU exchange application requirements apply.

Queen Elizabeth Scholarship

*Open to Health & Physical Education students only
MRU is partnered with the Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC), and students will be placed at a Commonwealth Games sites over the program's four-year period. Countries include Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Zambia and Namibia. This funding will support 16 international internships ($8,000 each) for qualified students (over the course of 4 years).
The Washington Centre (TWC) - Alberta Scholarship
*Available to all students
The Washington Center - Alberta Internship Partnership helps students get valuable work experience and take courses at The Washington Center in Washington, D.C.
Internships are structured according to student interests. Examples include:
- political leadership
- mass communications
- law and criminal justice
The internship program is administered by The Washington Center and partially funded by the Government of Alberta. This scholarship covers approximately $10,000 CAD. The program is open to qualified students who are registered at a participating post-secondary institution in Alberta.
