Placement testing

Applicants are required to complete placement testing to determine the appropriate level of study in the LEAP program, as well as, to qualify for domestic student funding (if applicable). Testing is currently offered online.

What you need to know

There are three placement tests that you need to complete:

  • Grammar
  • Writing 
  • Speaking

Please follow the steps below to complete these tests. There are support videos to help you with each step.

Step 1: Activate your MRU account


Step 2: Use your MRU email to send the message below to mrulanguages@mtroyal.ca. The message in your email will be: I have successfully activated my MRU account.

 


Step 3: Log into Blackboard to do your Grammar Placement test.


Step 4: Log into Blackboard to do your Writing Placement test.


Step 5: Sign up for a Speaking Test time. Click on a time slot in the calendar below to book your time.

To find the Google Meet link for your appointment, go to your Google Calendar and click on your appointment time for the link.

Note: In order to view the appointment calendar, you must use Google Chrome as the browser and be logged in to your @mtroyal Gmail account. 

Domestic Student Funding

Low-income Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees may be eligible to apply for funding through the Learner Income Support Office of Alberta Works.  Learn how to apply for funding.
